by MonarchsGM on Today at 12:34:00 AM The Monarch faithful are dancing in the streets after the organization pulled the trigger on a bevy of moves to shake up the listless, sinking franchise. Sporting a soft 25-30 record 55 games into the season, GM Greg Wickham shocked Kansas City fans by boldly refusing to throw in the towel and deciding the future is now.
Swinging separate deals for superstar pitcher Mike "House of Pain" Rotch and the best third baseman in baseball, Gustavo Sanchez, both the Monarch rotation and lineup received a badly needed jolt of energy. "We needed to get Herman some help in the rotation, that's for sure. And we're just not scoring runs. Too many swings and misses. Sanchez should help everone in the lineup, and Godfrey-Hayakawa-Sanchez is a helluva run for any pitcher to get through," Wickham said.
The transformation didn't stop there, however. Top prospects Frank Hanson and William Smith were called up the same day as the trade. The speedster Hanson takes over at short and is hitting leadoff, while 19-year-old Smith takes over behind the plate. "They're young, especially Smith, but I think they're ready to contribute," Wickham said.
The hometown was swarming with ticket purchases when the new-look Monarchs finished off their most recent roadtrip with a three-game sweep of mighy Caledonia. 43,000 fans each night, unfortunately, were forced to realize the team is still young and finding its way after two losses at Arthur Bryant Field to Chicago. Nevertheless, it looks to be an exciting summer in KC. 0 Views | Rating: (0 rates)

by BlackbirdsGM on July 06, 2008, 03:07:00 PM Are the Seattle Blackbirds throwing in the towel? The recent trade of promising young starting pitcher Mike Rotch, and the fact that they are shopping two of their better hitters would seem to indicate exactly that. When reached for comment, the Blackbirds GM was non-commital and somewhat evasive. "We never give up here in Seattle, and don't plan on it now." "What we are doing is looking at getting some younger players on the team. When we moved Mike, we fully expected that Bryan Hepner would step up as our #2 starter, but unfortunately for Bryan and our team, he suffered a season ending injury last week and more or less put us in a tight spot. We have some promising young prospects in the minors who we expect will contribute starting next year, and now we like to add a few more.
It remains to be seen how the rest of the season plays out with the loss of Hepner, but other than Taddese Fenuku, the starting rotation is thin. If the Blackbirds can make a few trades for some young arms, then this could well be a team toreckon with in the not to distant future. When you look at prospects like 1B Alexis Wilson, LF Clarence Gentry, C Josh May, and a few others you have to think that Seattle's future looks bright. 1 Views | Rating: (0 rates)

by PikeGM on June 27, 2008, 11:29:00 PM After a 4-14 start this season the Fighting Pike GM Bill Akin started to wonder if all the hard work he had done and the money he had spent in the offseason were going to be getting him fired. "We had an awful start," said Akin. "We are very, very young, and maybe weren't quite ready to leave spring training. Three fifths of our rotation is new this year as is over half of our bullpen. The only returning starting infielder is first baseman Jim Sharp, and we also had two new outfielders to start the year. It's no wonder we got off to a slow start."
The Pike have been getting great contributions from their young rotation, which ranks 2nd in the league in ERA. Michael Loving, last year's dominating starter told us that we should expect big things from the Pike for a long time. "All our guys are young and talented," he said. "Wayne Summers came out of nowhere and has been about untouchable. Our two free agent guys in Bud Light and Nick Gibson don't have much in the wins column despite low ERAs. Raul continues to be a workhorse, and the best thing about this group is that we're all 27 or under. If we can stay healthy and get some run support, look out."
The Pike have gone 12-6 after their slow start, and find themselves just two games out of first place despite remaining four games under .500. "I think we can look for that to change to an above .500 number pretty soon," said Akin. "Jesus Martinez has already started to really stroke the ball, and Juan Ruiz has added some nice left handed presence to the lineup, though he hasn't hit for a lot of ower yet. Our returning players are all doing as expected, and if we can get Miranda sorted out we'll be in business. I'd still like to shore up the bullpen, and maybe add a nice bat at second base if I can find a lefty hitting one. Overall we're in pretty good shape though. Watch out SBL!" 2 Views | Rating: (0 rates)

by Commish on June 23, 2008, 08:37:00 PM It was a season of hope for Pats fans. So far its been a season of dissapointments with the team going 0-9 to start the season. The Pats who were quiet in the off season only signing one free agent SP Ricardo Feliz. GM Fournier is banking on young starting pitchers Miguel Lopez and Thomas Ruene to anchor the starting rotation this year. Miguel came up late last year and did well, this year we are expecting big things from him. Thomas has yet to throw like we had hoped this year and has not been called up to the big club yet. GM Fournier has seen tremendous improvement from SP Orlando Solis. Orlando worked all winter on his control problems, he was embarrassed to lead the league in walks and has made unbelivable improvement so far this year. With the rough start the fans are calling for Fournier to resign. The ownership is backing Fournier and have felt he is doing a good enough job. We will be at the top of this division in the end, it just took us a little time to get warmed up this year Fournier stated. It didn't help that we played Chicago, Maine, and Hartford to start the season. In the end the team did improve in pitching and with the one of the leagues most potent offenses this looks be a special year for Portland despite the rough start.
Above article submitted by Portland GM Pete Fournier, but would not post. Near as I can tell he wasn't logged in to the site since no author was showing. Pete will be awarded credit for the article.
